Making a disc with a few selected tools these days is not simple. Stuffing it is always easier. Wanting to be more refined, however, one must dose the ingredients well to avoid overloading the dish too, especially if the dish in question is bound to an intergalactic snack.

"Im Magen des Kosmos" is the Tyrolean duo's first album. Simple, basic, is an atypical release for 2011: drum'n'synth in the era of drum'n'bass, keyboards used as guitars, distant drums, acoustic drums that fit discreetly on vagaries of sliding or screaming electronics.

The references should be found back in time, in the more rarefied Kosmische Musik (the first Amon Duul, Cluster, Harmonia, Guru Guru) - or, just to mention a relatively recent affinity - in Orb but without frills.

In the two introductory explorations, "First Movement" and "Second Movement", named in Italian as befits a serious work of classical music, the battery is the host of clean jazz digressions (track 1) or distorted ones (track 2 ).

"In stillste ruh" introduces a couple of new elements at the top and tail, introduced by a flute, it ends with a poignant poem in German.

The title track comes in the middle of the disc: a hypnotic electronic pulse takes the place of percussions and leads straight into the depths of existence, among the bowels of the universe.

"Coffee in Guangzhou" promises a speech in Chinese, which seems to come only at the beginning of the next track.

"Dispersion (Thinking Of You)" is a long improvisation that changes its mood several times and introduces the final "Mom," the only song with a recognizable and repeated enough melody. With that delicate Fender Rhodes riff it could take just a little bit of strings to touch the ground and become a classic of Air.

"Im Magen des Kosmos" is an experimental record that always hangs in between the relaxing and the unsettling, leading us to infinite spaces to dig into. Bizarre, perhaps, but far from stodgy.
